Your Times Boosts Women’s Wellbeing

[ 4 May 2011 ]

A new NHS Stoke on Trent scheme bringing the women of Burslem and Tunstall together to try new activities and boost their wellbeing is being launched this week.

Your Time will be launched this Friday 6th May at Tunstall Market and gives women in the area the opportunity to receive funding to set up activities of their own.

They'll be able to find out more Information about the Your Time Community Activity Development Fund which helps women get funding to set up new activities that will appeal to other women in the area. There will also be free five-minute hand massages and a chance to talk to the Your Time team about activities already taking place.

Five ways to wellbeing have formed the basis for the Your Time initiative that aims to support women in the area to make lifestyle changes. It's after evidence suggested that there are five things everyone can do to improve their sense of wellbeing. They are:

  • Connecting with others,
  • Being active,
  • Learning
  • Taking notice
  • Giving

Working with existing community groups and volunteers, the initiative will encourage women to come together to decide how they want to spend their leisure time and support them in taking part in new groups and activities.

Women told us that when they are tired from the daily stresses of family and work life it is easy to fall into routines that are hard to change.  They often ended up watching TV or surfing the net all evening rewarding themselves with comfort food and a few glasses of wine.  They didn't know about other ways to reward themselves or about other things that they could do instead.

Sharon Taaffe Head of Health Improvement from NHS Stoke on Trent said: "If you've always wanted to take up an activity, learn a new skill or just to meet people in your area then Your Time is for you.

She added: "We are bringing together an amazing group of volunteers who will work together to make Your Time a reality for women in Tunstall and Burslem. With the Community Activity Development Fund available for people with great ideas, there has never been a better time to get involved."

If you would like more information about how to get involved with Your Time come along to Tunstall Market on Friday 6th May, 9.30 - 11.30am , contact Jenny at The Hub on 0161 235 8455 or go to Facebook and search for  ‘Your Time.'
